Is your room a mess? Do you ever look in your closet and think “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!” or “I HAVEN’T WORN THIS IN YEARS, WHY DO I STILL HAVE IT!?” Well, I’m here to teach you EXACTLY how to correct your problem.
- The first thing you need to do is slowly look through EVERY item of clothing you have. I advise that you first start with the clothes that aren’t in your closet, but on the floor of your messy room. If you wear it often and don’t plan on changing your style anytime soon, put it in the KEEP pile. If you haven’t worn it the past couple months and you think you’ll wear it soon, you won’t, so put it in the AWAY pile.
- Next, move on to your closet. All the clothes you’ve gotten from relatives on birthdays, Christmas, or whatever the occasion and you don’t like it, throw it in the AWAY pile. Now, if you don't want to throw away something a relative gave you because it’s “rude” or “not right” or whatever the reason, the away pile doesn’t mean you have to throw it away. You can give it to a sibling or store it for “safekeeping” in the garage or somewhere other than your closet.
- Look closely, do you really need that? No. Can you try to “make it work” by wearing it with another outfit? Possibly, but no. Give it to a friend, cousin, sibling, parent, and if later on down the line you think “Oh, that shirt I gave to *person* would look PERFECT with these new shoes!” then take it back.
*WARNING: if the person is giving you a hard
time while you’re trying to gain back your belongings, step away. Confrontation
is not something you should condone. You can always find something better for a
cheaper price at a thrift store.*
- At this point, you should have properly organized a KEEP pile and an AWAY pile. If not, you’ve done something wrong, so go back and repeat those steps until you do something right.
- Take one last look, do you really need it? If you’re confident in what you’ve chosen then you’re ready for the cleanup process.
- Take the AWAY pile and distribute them how you’d like. Take the KEEP pile and find as many hangers as you can to complete this vital step. Take the clothes you’d like to keep and put each on a hanger. Shirts go normally on hangers and heavy pants go through hangers that are big enough. If you’re confused, refer to the pictures below.
- Organizing your clothes is the tricky part, this is all to your discretion. You can organize by color, type of clothing, fabric, size, season, etc etc etc. The smartest thing to do is organize by heaviest tops first (i.e. sweaters, jackets) then to more lighter ones (i.e. tanks, tees, dresses) and finally to bottoms (i.e. pants, slacks, skirts, shorts) and anything else goes in between, to your discretion of course.
- SHOES. You can’t forget your shoes. Like with your clothes, organize your shoes the way you’d like. I advise that you organize it by how often you wear it. If you’re more into sneakers (i.e. vans, converse) put those in line first on the floor of your closet. If you rarely wear boots, put those towards the end. If you’re fancy and have a shoe rack, put your stuff there.
- BELTS. Belts are to go in front of all other articles of clothing. If you don’t own any belts, skip this step.
- YOU’RE ALMOST DONE. Now there’s dust and small little scrapes all over your floor. You’re going to need to sweep, mop, dust, and make the bed. This is the easy part, it’s something we’ve all done before, so there shouldn’t be a problem. I hope.
- CONGRATULATIONS, THE LAST STEP. You did it, you’re organized!!! Now you can relax, recoup, and not worry about being late for an event because now you have all your clothes mapped out in front of you. GOOD JOB!
As you
can see, I am VERY skilled in this process. Some would even say I’m a pro,
which makes everything I’ve told you this far valid. I hope you’ve learned a
lot out of this and you can now properly clean out your closet. BYEEE AND GOOD
LUCK!! :)
