Maryann-Living the thing we call "Life"
Living the thing we call “Life”
Every star you see in the sky is dead. By the time you see that star’s light the star has
already died and all you are seeing is the light it emitted that has taken light years to reach our
eyes. (So guys don’t ever compare a girl to the stars in the sky because they’re dead.) But back to
the stars, we see the product of their lives. Some stars are brighter than others, some shine in
different colors. But just like stars, what are we doing with our live?. What are we going to be
seen as?
A second will always just be a second and a minute will always be a minute but within
that minute there are a sixty seconds and within those seconds there are a million infinites of
numbers we haven’t yet counted. Time is a manmade idea that we’ve come up with as means of
measuring; measuring our lives, the seconds it takes for the minute hand to make a full
revolution, the hours that pass as you wait in line for a ride at Disneyland. Our lives are our
defined by the time we live. What do we mean when we say we’ve lived 17 years? It means
we’ve lived 17 years, 884 weeks, 6,188 days,148,512 hours, 8,910,720 minutes, or 534,643,200
seconds. But for how much longer will we be remembered for?
Do you want to be remembered as the guy who spent his days playing video games? Or
the girl who spent all morning applying make up only to wipe it off before bed? Would you
prefer to be remembered as the guy or girl who made the most out of their life? What does it
mean to make the most out of our life? It means that every second is an opportunity. There’s not
a minute to waste in our lives. Do you want to skydive, bungee jump, or travel the world?
Become an artist, play music, or engineer the structures of tomorrow? Then what are you waiting
for? The reality is that we should do what makes us happy. Happiness is not defined by the
number of digits in our bank accounts because the reality is those bank accounts are full of
nothing. Money is just another counting unit and while happiness is not money they are
correlated but that doesn’t mean you can’t be happy when all you have is a tiny cottage in the
middle of nowhere. Some people are so poor that all they have is money and lack the real riches
in life. Do what makes you happy because when the average lifespan is 78.7 years why should
you do anything else? Why would you want to do anything else?
It might seem like we went off on tangent but fear not. The reality is that if you do
everything with happiness and a feeling of satisfaction anything you’ve done is the best you
could possibly give to the world. The only thing that makes an ordinary person different from an
extraordinary person is the love and dedication they put into their work. We’re all ordinary
people who could do extraordinary deeds. That’s what people remember us for, it’s not for the
numbers in our bank account or for the hours of work we got in every week it’s for what we did.
Just like the stars we are appreciated for the work that we left behind that we dedicated our lives
to. The work that was done to the best of our ability. I don’t care what I’m remembered as, as
long as everyone can say that anything I did was with a passion because then my light will be
seen from light years away.

Compelling story that really makes us think about where we want to be in life and what truly makes us happy. I know especially now since all of us are venturing off into college, we must think further into the future to what really want to be and this puts that into perspective. What are we going to do to make ourselves happy rather than everyone else? I hope to keep thinking about this throughout life.

Good job! There were a few punctuation mistakes here and there but for the most part it was great. I feel like the last sentence is contradicting though because you say you don't care but you also say that you want to be remembered for being passionate, which would mean that you do care about what people will remember you for.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an important piece to read especially at our age considering how easy it is to lose sight of who we are and what we really want in life. I think this provides us with some important ideas that we should live by especially when making important life decisions
ReplyDelete-David Tucker
I love how real this piece is. It makes me think about what really is important versus what everyone else thinks is important. Really well written!
ReplyDelete-Marissa Putrick
Very very true. I really like the idea of being spontaneous and bold and making what you can of your life. I particularly liked this piece because I feel like you , yourself are very true to this idea. You're all about adventure and taking risks, so I think this what definitely a very "Maryann" piece :) & I also appreciated the science you threaded in
ReplyDeleteGood Job :)
Nice job! This is something I find myself thinking about pretty often. It is not always easy to take advantage of every minute but I think a lot of us do our best. I think I'll probably be remembered as a cat lady and a photographer and that's just fine with me! :)
ReplyDelete-Kayla Salas
In my opinion you'll always be that sweet person that always compliments everyone that just happens to love photography and cats.
DeleteThis is so you! I love all the connections you made between the stars and living, It's a really great perspective on things, and i feel like not a lot of people end up thinking about the impact they will have had once their gone.
ReplyDeleteGood job! I really like this piece and seeing what is really important in our lives
ReplyDelete-Maite Vano
I like this piece so much and It is my favorite. It makes me think about my future and what really is important to me. Good Job.

Very reflective story on such a broad topic. I truly appreciate the amount of examples and situations you had used in order to justify the fact that we do not live for such meaningless subjects. Although, improved punctuation and less crowded sentence structure would make this work that much better. Great piece!
ReplyDeleteThis was a nice reminder of the thought that has been hitting me quite often recently, with the whole college planning and thinking of the future process. It goes along with the whole idea of what being successful truly is, which in my opinion it's being happy and enjoying life now. Just as you mentioned time doesn't stop, we have to make the most of it and be the best version of ourselves, show the world who we are. Great Job!! -Aileen Munoz
ReplyDeleteThis was beautiful! I think, now, more than ever, we are so blinded by meaningless materialistic desires, that we often neglect to truly appreciate the journey that life offers and to truly reflect on the abilities that make us "extraordinary" and remembered. Great job, Maryann! This was such an important wake-up call, not only for me but I'm sure for any other reader. I sincerely hope that my light will be seen from miles away too!

Very good story it made me think and I'm sure it made anyone else who read it think.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job!!!! This piece really gets you thinking about life and how efficiently and fullfilling we are living it. This piece really made me reflect upon myself and what I was doing with my life. I am inspired to aim for more in my life. I really enjoyed this piece. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThat last sentence brought a tear to my eye. It made me realize what really was important. About the stars, i wouldnt mind if a guy compared me to one. Like you said, they have been dead for so long but we still see and admire their light. If a guy compared me to the stars he could be saying that even when I die i will be remembered for the things that made me shine like that passion.
ReplyDeleteThe theme of this piece is very relatable and definitely gave me a "reality check". It's extremely important that people are aware of how they live their lives. Not by valuing it through time, but by living in the moment. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI really liked this piece because it relates to all of us so well. The message you conveyed is very important for all of us, so well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat Job on this piece! This made me think more about how to really live life and not take things for granite. We should also, as people, really not lose sight of the things that really matter to us.
ReplyDeleteThat was beautiful. Makes me want to stop doing homework and live my life, haha just kidding,. Good job.
ReplyDeleteReally great piece. Compared to how big and massive the universe is, our lives are to short to be wasted. Our lives are to minuscule to be wasted on what other people think. We just need to do what we want to do, and not to focus on all the people trying to bring you down. Good job.
ReplyDeleterelatable. great comparison. makes you actually stop and think.
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting piece with an interesting way at looking at life. I liked how how you expressed how those with money are those that are poor. I agree that we need to focus on the things we want to do, because if we don't, then it is as if our lives have no meaning.
ReplyDelete-Anthony Giliberto Jr.
This is such an interesting look on life! I really appreciate your drive to be happy and its evident through your piece. I adored your inclusion of the stars and it definitely assisted in getting your idea across. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteInteresting intro I felt like I was watching a science documentary narrated by Carl Sagan! Eye opening idea, where your point is whatever you do make sure you do it because you love it and put passion into it, which I love and totally agree with. It's too bad our time on this earth is so limited.
ReplyDeleteI love this piece! I felt like I was listening to a motivational speaker! I totally agree with the ideas in this piece because I would much rather be happy and enjoy life than be rich. You put so much power in these words and I really felt your passion!
ReplyDelete-Chloe Hopkins
i can spend hours upon hours pondering the same idea. But it couldn't have been said better!
ReplyDeleteThe piece teaches a life lesson based on the time were given and how we need to make our time in the world very significant so we can shine just like the stars and make an impact we will be remembered for. It is a very relatable as we need to soon make important life choices that should make us happy not for the money we gain but for the true riches of life, I really like how this piece focuses on encouraging its readers to use the time given to be happy teaching us an important life lesson.
ReplyDelete-Jennifer Rodriguez
This piece was truly inspiring! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this piece and the last sentence truly impacted me (I can imagine you dropping a mic after that line (; !!). Great work! :)
ReplyDeleteMaryann :D this was amazing! This piece was really inspiring sometimes we get so caught up forgetting whats important. I want to make my life count to focus on what I really want in life, your point of view is motivational.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Reading this makes me want to take advantage of every second that goes by and to just live and appreciate each and every moment as they come.
ReplyDeleteThe very uplifting motivational premise behind the story made this a very intriguing read on a subject that we all ponder at some point in our lives. You definitely made it optimistic.
ReplyDeleteI feel that "Life" for everyone means something different; However being the best person you can possible be in the life you are given is something that everyone should strive for. I loved this, it made me think about all the time i have wasted when i could have been doing something more productive.
ReplyDeleteMaryann this was so good, very funny and very you. I know that personally the idea of happiness with a certain amount of income in my life has been on my mind for the last year as I try to figure out what i want for my future. I loved your tone in this piece, friendly but persuasive, great job.
ReplyDeleteAlthough there's very faulty information that EVERY star you see in the sky is dead (but I understand its use for emphasis), this is a very strong and motivational piece!
ReplyDeleteI also think about how living life is important. Thank you for the insight and motivation!
ReplyDeleteI really liked this piece. It makes you reflect on the fact that you should do what you love to make you happy. Its very relatable. Good job :)
ReplyDeleteGood job! I feel like the last sentence is contradicting though because you say you don't care but you also say that you want to be remembered for being passionate, which would mean that you do care about what people will remember you for, i just found that interesting. Keep up the good work! :>
ReplyDeleteVery interesting and mature perspective on what makes our worlds go 'round. The thing about the stars was pretty depressing, but in a somber and thoughtful way that makes you appreciate the here and now of life. Definitely worthy of hoco2k16.
ReplyDeleteThis piece really got me thinking as well as perceiving life in a more philosophical point of view. -Brian Rojas
ReplyDeleteNice job. A few grammatical and punctuation errors, but overall, the idea behind the piece was fascinating and forced me to ponder upon this idea of living this...fantasy we call life.
ReplyDeleteI found this story very interesting and informative. This is a great story to read when you're in a bad mood like I was. It really boosted my mood and got me thinking.
ReplyDeleteYeahhh that's trueeee. I really like your view on life, it's very intriguing. Makes you really think about life.
ReplyDelete~ Gregory Gomez
Wow this was amazing, it really opens my eyes to what's really important and that happiness can come from many things! Awesome job girl!
ReplyDeleteThe story was amazing, I am so enjoy reading it.
ReplyDelete-Anita Kong
This was such a great peice. It was more motivational than anything and I loved it! I felt like I could really relate to it, especially now because with our futures looming around every corner, we can't lose sight of what will make us happy and what we truly want, not what the people around us want.
ReplyDeleteThis piece really spoke to me because the overall thought of what is happiness and what would you want to be remembered for is something that everyone at once in their lives have been asked and ideally what you've said in this piece can sum up answers that could encourage and/or inspire someone to do what they can with the little amount of time here and you've hit the spot (or at least for me) and i couldn't say it any better.
ReplyDelete-Emmanuel Huntspon
Good job showing what really matters from what doesn't, really helped open my eyes to focus on the more important things in life
ReplyDelete-Bobby
very relatable. interesting way of interpreting life.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your piece, even though we agreed to not read each other's but I just had to. It really motivated me to put myself out more and to take more risks because at the end of the day being safe and being content isn't what life is about. It's about taking chances to be happy and to put your best effort into whatever you decide to do. Very inspirational c:.
ReplyDelete-Jeremiah Eugenio
This is something I think about almost daily. Connecting life to starlight only made it more apparent of how precious time is. Very good job!
ReplyDelete-Ethan Donnelly
That was a well built up theme, it gives me a lot to think about as a teenager and soon to be adult. I hope to work hard enough to be remembered from my success.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this story it was very well written. It really puts a whole new perspective on life. Very inspirational.
ReplyDeleteReally puts things into perspective. Shows how little time we have to make an impact on the world so I guess we have to use all the time that we can.
ReplyDeleteWow this is a really great piece, love how you motivated us to break down the barriers that we create for ourselves so that we make the most out of lives. Keep up the great work! -Damian Echavarria
ReplyDeletethis story really made me think. I loved it great job
ReplyDeleteThis was a very inspirational piece, and I must say some of the views expressed in it correlate with mine. Life leaves you with numerous opportunities but only you can decide to act upon them. I commend your insight and appreciate the bit of humor you used as well.
ReplyDeleteYour flow kept the piece intriguing, while continuously invoking deeper thinking of your readers! In particular, I enjoyed your hypothetical questions which posed as real issues that teenagers entering the "real world" must think about. Your voice demonstrated your personal view without clouding judgement, therefore I enjoyed reading about this deeper philosophy. Great idea :-).
ReplyDeleteThought-provoking piece, I liked how after you explained what life should be about you returned to your reference on how our lives are like stars in the sky. Well written piece, good job!
ReplyDeleteYou jumped from topic to to topic very well because you used a lot of examples about life and how u can be viewed and I never got lost. This is a piece that a lot of people should read to make it better for the way there viewed and spend their life.
ReplyDeleteI suddenly got the urge to do everything, ever. I feel so motivated. Im going to save this and read it whenever i feel like i need that extra push. Thank you.
ReplyDelete-Sean Monsalve
i enjoyed reading your interpretation concerning life. i completely agree that one should live their lives passionately and certainly with satisfaction. Perhaps even helping others with hopes of their betterment. Nice Work.
ReplyDeleteMakes one stop and think. A deep read. I like it.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me reflect on my own life and if I used every opportunity that I have to the fullest. Thanks for such a great piece.
ReplyDeleteSo inspirational!!! Honestly everything you talked about is exactly how I feel, my blog post had a similar idea to this as well. This really spoke to me in a positive way, it really is interesting how we label things as important when the important things around don't seem to get any importance at all. Overall, well done!
ReplyDeletethis was interesting and not to crazy
ReplyDeletethis give me an idea wow this was the best
