Who knew I would be so
close with someone who was baking birthday cakes for the Queen of England. Suzy
Degazon a long time family friend has inspired not only my family but many many
people in so many ways that could never be explained on paper. Where should we
start with this wonderful woman; while I’m sitting here writing this and you
sitting here reading this or watching TV I can guarantee she is out running,
riding her bike, swimming, scuba diving or baking all along with her dog
companion Hammer.
She
is an Ultra-Tri-athlete, combining all her passions of biking, swimming and
scuba diving. It was an obvious path to venture down which she was first
exposed to in Puerto Rico! Fun fact: her picture was on bus stops in Puerto
Rico because she was the National Tri-athlete CHAMP!! For those that do not
know the famous Ironman in Hawaii which includes a 2.4 mile open water swim,
112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile marathon run which all must be completed
within 17 hours, but some triathlons do vary. She has competed and finished in
the Ultraman World Championships in Hawaii, not once, not twice not even 10
time but 15 times and guessed what it was all in a row. And of course in her
spare times she is doing an uncountable amount of other races and competitions,
I don’t know about you but that insanely amazing to me. Her journey has brought
her all over the world living and traveling in amazing places. Before I am even
up in the morning she is already up on her toes training and enjoying her life.
One
must be wondering what drives someone to this; where does one start and where
do they get the passion for it. One of the bigger obstacles Suzy has overcome is
Anorexia Nervosa; Suzy has overcome something that many cannot, she was near
death in an asylum weighing less than 80 pounds before she decided she had more
to live for and was not going to continue to let the asylum be her death bed.
She finally heard her Grandfathers words and her family that stood by her side,
she opened up and started talking about past abusive situations, she was the
only one who could turn her life around and she began her journey of a new life
and healing. After a long and painful road she has channeled her energy into positive
things and a complete 180 degree turn around on her life. Not to mention after
going through that your health condition cannot be perfect and has left her
legally deaf, but of course none of that has stopped her and I believe it never
will.
She also
enjoys instructing scuba diving and teaching CPR and First aid classes on land
and in water. She somehow finds free
time to help others and instruct these classes. She has always been willing to
help if she can upon a phone call. She has such a sweet happy caring
personality for everyone that no one could resist liking. We always love when
we get a magazine in the mail and see her shining smile on the front cover or
another inspirational note within. She is literally the definition of
unstoppable lady.

ReplyDelete"birthday cakes for the Queen of England". "Ultra-Tri-athlete" "Suzy has overcome... Anorexia Nervosa." Its AMAZING that these 3 statements all describe one person, Suzy Degazon. With all the struggles she has faced in her life, yet all the things she has accomplished, she should serve as an inspiration for us AP kids who complain about all the work we get! She is living proof that no matter what hardships someone may face a little determination and a little bit of help go a long way. It seriously blows my mind that she participated in triathlons of that magnitude and so many times. From your description and stories of Suzy, I can tell she is a very strong-minded woman who has a lot to offer. She has many admirable traits and is a very courageous figure. Through the trials and tribulations that she went through and able to come out on top, is a true hero not only to herself but to the people who are also struggling through the problems she went through.
ReplyDeleteI liked this story because it provides hope for those who need it like people battling depression or any other issues that can be fixed. This woman has beat anorexia and is not a tri-athlete. I hope I become as motivated and strong as this person is when I am older.
