Kimberly--My Happy Place

My Happy Place

They say Disneyland is the happiest place on Earth. Well, they’re right. Many of you  might have experienced the magical wonders of Disney when you were at a very young  age. My first time at Disneyland was almost four years ago! Imagine that. Now, I will never  forget my first day at the place that seemed a little too perfect to be true. It was a typical  normal day; sunny, birds chirping, a cool breeze blowing, clear skies, but with absolutely  nothing to do. My brother and I, along with my two nieces and nephew were driving around  numerous areas to find the perfect place to spend the perfect day. My brother stopped the  car, put it in park, turned to us and said “Let’s go to Disneyland.” I almost had a heart attack  right then and there. We spent the rest of the car ride listening to the Disney radio and  singing along to “Hakuna Matata”. Arriving at the place that I’ve heard so much about was  almost too much to process. However, the surprises didn’t end there! My brother did not  just come back with regular, one day tickets, but with annual passes. I could feel tears  puddling in my eyes. I remember walking through the gates and thinking to myself, “Wow.”  because I couldn’t find my voice. The aroma was like nothing I had ever experienced. The  scent of warm bakeries and fresh flowers. The sound of laughter and the languages of  people that come from countries and cities far from here. The feeling of happiness,  fulfillment, enchantment, and nostalgia. The list goes on. I never believed that I could feel so  much like a little kid again. I caught myself having the biggest smile on my face. Every ride I  went on, I felt like I was time traveling through my childhood. Instead of reminiscing on the  times I would sit on my living room floor to watch Toy Story, I was encountering and taking  pictures with the characters themselves! Being at Disneyland makes me like a child again  and makes me realize that time is of the essence. We waste our time trying to grow up and  forget the past, when the past is who we are. My appreciation grows a little more every  time I walk through those gates. If I ever need a place to escape to, I know where I will be.

  4. When I read that you had never been to Disney up until four years ago, I literally said "Oh My God, No Way!?" I could not believe it. I always had this mental image that a childhood is only fulfilled upon when a child goes on their first trip to Disney, but boy was I wrong. Your recollection of your first trip was exquisite, I could almost you picture you walking in with a large grin on your face. Keep it up.

  5. This made me smile so much because I personally love Disneyland! I love the way you described the park because all of it is so true! Hearing the laughter of children and smelling the flowers, was exactly how Disneyland is. I miss it! You made me want to go to Disneyland again. This was amazing and I love it. :)

  7. I love how I can exactly perceive and picture your experience. From the strong aroma of churros, to viewing the happiness which surrounds you. How could you not be happy in such a place? This narrative definitely brought back nostalgic, yet great memories for myself. I always used to go as a child, and only go once a year for band. Happy to see that we all relate :)

  9. When I started reading this, I automatically got excited because I love Disneyland. Then when I read that you haven't been until four years ago, I was thinking "How could you do such a thing?!". However, you are absolutely right. We are so caught up in growing up that we forget who we really are. Great job!

  29. I believe quite some people can agree with you're statement, but I don't think many can have the same emotion about this one place. However I do agree with you that Disneyland has this somewhat enchantment and glimmer of the glory of Disney. Wonderful!(:

  32. Well I'm happy Disney land was fun for you but my first trip was last year for the end of the year eighth grade field trip. I guess it was fun in a sense but it was not nearly as good as i would've hoped. But i really like this story it does tell an important message of not trying to grow up to fast. Even though I'm only a freshman, I'm still just shocked i guess that life is moving by so quickly, soon ill have to get a job, and before i know it ill be driving and on my way to college. The best part is how you ended it, the last sentence. I love this story. Fantastic job.

  39. Personally, i like Cali Adventure better probably because i didnt have the best first experience there. It was on a weekend so it was crowded and it was a school field trip which made it worse, and that was just last year MY FIRST "MAGICAL" time there.. so yeah lol but everyone has different opinions

    ReplyDelete
  40. l love your story I love how much detail you put in this story (:

  43. This makes me so sad, but so happy. Last year I went to Disneyland at least 15 times and I haven't been in 3 months. It's the only place that makes me extremely happy. Whenever I go I feel like I'm a child again. I'm so happy that I can relate to this and that you had a great experience with your annual pass.

  50. I have been to Disneyland several times and I don't really like it much but your description of it is so passionate I really would consider going again hah! The main thing is that you sincerely described feelings I think we can all relate to and the way you described them; just reading this gives us a bit of that sensation.

  55. Great Story! My first time was last year for the eight grade field trip and I honestly like the rides and it was fun but I guess it wasn't that adventurous for me. But the descriptive made me feel like I want to go back and feel like a child and enjoy those forever lasting memories. We all need a place where we can escape and it's great that you chose Disneyland. Wonderful story! :)

  59. This was really enjoyable. I love how you took appreciation in your first trip from 4 years ago. I'm a huge Disney fanatic since my mom use to work for Disney Animation and when I entered her work place I turned into my younger curious self. You're right about how most people are trying to grow up too fast. It makes me think that I don't want to grow up fast but take in the time of being a kid. So thanks, for making me smile with your piece.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I also enjoy going to Disneyland because sometimes you don't feel like you want to stay at home, instead you want to go to the happiest place on earth with people you love

  64. Kimmy, I cannot stress on how your piece makes me want to go to Disneyland so badly now. I absolutely enjoyed reading your story because it is true, Disneyland is the place to be because it is "The Happiest Place On Earth" and because I loved how you go back to four years ago when you went to Disneyland for your very first time and how going there has made you find your own happy place. As I was reading your piece, I could feel the anticipation you built up just from getting a Disneyland pass because owning a pass is probably one the best items anyone could ever own. Good job on this piece Kimmy! I love you!

I really liked that I was able to connect with the story because I am one of those people who just tries to grow up and get out of high school. It made me realize I need to just slow down and enjoy every moment of life and stop trying to rush things.
