Erick--How To Get Exposed To College Baseball Scouts

How To Get Exposed To College Baseball Scouts and Major League Scouts

A lot of teenagers dream is to play Major League Baseball. However, what they don’t realize is that how are they going to play in the big leagues if they don’t get recognized. In order for teenagers to get recognized, they need to know the game physically and mentally. Scouts want to see players have a lot energy, positive attitude, and how they carry themselves on the field. First of all, scouts want to see a leader on the field by having a lot of energy. Players can show energy by communicating with teammates, hustling, and moving their feet. During warm ups, instead of people being lazy by just catching the ball and taking 30 seconds to throw it back, they have to be ATHLETIC and move their feet and pretending what they can do in a real life game situation. This shows a scout that this player wants to be here and wants to win. If one player is pumping up his team by a motivational talk or making a great play, that’s bringing energy to the team.
Next, scouts also like to see positive attitude. Showing positive attitude means like picking up your teammate, not being negative and not making fun of anyone. If your picking up your teammate, that shows a scout that your unselfish. Plus, showing positive attitude towards the umpire and to the coaches really is big. If you show respect to the umpires, it shows that not only the scouts but the umpires that you play the game the right way. Showing heart proves that you care about baseball and you are not playing because your parents are forcing you to do an activity or doing it because you just want to be occupied.
Also, scouts want to how you carry yourself on and off the field. In order to show a scout how you carry yourself, you need to hustle, dive and show effort that you want the ball, hit a pop fly anywhere sprint to second base so you can show off your speed and sell yourself, and if you strikeout hustle out of the box and be like so what instead of putting your head down and walking towards the dugout. If you hustle to your position and hustle out of your position, that shows everybody in the stands that your full of energy. If your playing defense, and if your not able to catch a ball, dive for the ball. Diving for the ball proves to a scout that you play with 100% effort. If you dive for a ball and don’t make the catch, and show that next time you’ll make a play, the scouts will put all their focus on you. In addition, if you hit a pop fly straight in the air, you better be standing at second base. If you sprint your heart out to second base, your selling yourself by showing off your speed. Also, if you strikeout and act like so what, scouts will see that you don’t pout or show emotion on the field, you can prove that you play the game right. Every player and scout knows that the game of baseball is a game failure. The only way to get better is to learn from failure. So in order to get a scout’s attention remember these steps and show positive energy on the field and off the field.

  9. Most important from your advice is learning from failure. The mindset of improvement rather than just winning will get you far, I know this from achieving high ladder ranks in the e-sport "League of Legends".

  13. Since I play softball and I'm traveling to different states for showcases I can relate to this. I know that you never know when a scout is watching so you should play the game like you always do with 115% of your ability. Plus scouts can be anywhere even when your not playing they can be in the restroom line right next to you as they can hear the language you use. This "How to" is very helpful and I'll have my brother read this since he wants to be in the MLB. On the writing side of this, it was not really flowing because there were some words missing to a few sentences. Overall good job!
