Begin Live Transmission?
Y-E-S.
(Static)
Beginning Live Transmission.
A young boy appears on the screen. He doesn’t look older then twelve. For a kid his age his eyes tell a tragic story.
“Congratulations….. You have awoken from your hibernation. Since you’re watching this, I’m assuming you know how to work this ancient technology.  My name is Arran Kai and I am the seeker for the Syndicate.  You were sentenced to a  150 year hibernation by The Order for stealing and selling secrets. The Order captured you and convicted you for being a traitor and a double agent. The Syndicate has been trying to retrieve your body for the last 50 years, with the hope that you can help us defeat The Order………Hey! Where are you going?  Hey! I’m trying to help you!”.
(the sound of the kids’ voice gets quieter and quieter as I begin to walk away)
Trying to defeat The Order is suicide! I would know! That’s the reason why I got sentenced to 150 years in this stupid vault! That kid has no idea how many rebellions have tried and failed…..what an idiot. The Syndicate is gone! Just another worthless unoriginal rebellion!
There all the same!
Every single one of them thinks they have the “right leader” who is “capable” of taking down the most feared organization in the world. HA! Little do they know it’s all been tried; Poor suckers.  All I should be doing is trying to find a way out of here.
“Hello! I can get you out of the vault! I can tell you what’s happened in last 150 years!”
( I walk to the back to the computer and exam it, looking for an off switch).
Man! This kid and his squeaky voice is driving me insane! Why did I turn on this dinosaur?
“Alright kid, you have my attention. What is it that the Syndicate wants from me?”
“They want to know what you know”.
“And… what exactly do I know?”
“Secrets” .
“Whose secrets?”
I need to test this kid to see if he really is from the Syndicate. They have a….a process so to speak that the Seekers, in particular, go through when they find lost members of the Syndicate.  I know this because I founded this group and I was head of the Seekers….
I watched The Syndicate get burned to the ground after I was captured. There’s no way they all survived.
You have valuable information about The Order that will help us defeat them”.
“Okay… Let’s say I do have this information, am I just supposed to give it to you now and then you get me out or, you get me out and then I give you what you want?”
“The Syndicate see’s you as someone useful, we won’t leave you in the vault.”
“Good to know. How does The Syndicate know about me?”
“We have your previous records”
“And what do those records say?”
“That you were captured, deemed a traitor, double agent, you know….stuff. ”
(sarcastically) Hilarious. The kid thinks he’s funny.
“You said that already, tell me something new.”
“What would you like to know?”
“Where are you located?”
“That’s classified.”
At least they’re still teaching the number one rule.
Fine. What’s my name?”
“On your records it says your name is Nomad.”
Man don’t they read the entire file anymore.  Any experienced Seeker would know that at the back of the records the real name of a lost Syndicate is written at the bottom left corner.
“But, your real name is really Caden Smith, it states it here on the back of your records on the bottom left corner”
Not bad kid.
The Syndicate is still a live… they’re still fighting… they’re going to get themselves killed or worse.
“Alright Arran Kai, Well you clearly know a lot about me. You know that I used to work for The Syndicate and I was their spy. When you get me out I’ll tell you what you need to know.”
(silence)
What the heck? Why isn’t he saying anything?
“Hello? Arran?”
Crap!  Did the screen freeze?

“Sir, he agreed to help us.”
“Well of course he did! Its Caden!”
I know that voice, but I hadn’t heard it in ages.
“Jerry is that you?”
“Yes, it’s me.”
(a man with silver hair and a walker slowly appeared in the frame of the screen)
“My God you’re old!”
“Shut up! I can leave you in there, ya know!”
(many clicking sounds later the vault door began to creak open with light pouring through)
“Take the transmission with you Caden and we’ll guide you to the bunker. It should take 3 days to get to us. Start moving we are losing this war!”
Ending live transmission.
I took my belongings, well the transmission and the prison jumpsuit I was already wearing, and headed out.
I walked out of the vault.

  2. I can tell you put a lot of thought into this and it shows. Excellent job! I loved the dialogue and the comments Caden makes to himself. Honestly, I could see this being a great Si-fi narrative/show. Very dystopian also,so again awesome job. I'm so glad I read this

  3. I'm sad that there is not more it reminds me of a good book that you get into and it just stopped :( but I love the hunger games theme of trying to over throw a higher power and I like the dialog

I was so enraptured the whole time that I was reading this, I got the feeling I get when I am reading a really good book and I just want to read everything in intense detail but also read everything really fast because it is the good. This piece was one of the best I have seen on both this blog and Cogswells, Thank you so much please keep writing.

  5. Oh my goodness, I love this so much. You are a talented writer! I especially enjoyed Caden's short thoughts in between his dialogue with Arran. It's always so interesting to get a peak of the character's thoughts that are not made aware to the other characters. The jab at how rebellion is unoriginal and how it has all been down before was such a great way to introduce the story because it is somewhat true, we have all read books on rebellions in dystopias, overthrowing the government, and whatnot, but because Caden is acknowledges this, he seems to break free from the stock "rebellion leader" character type. This was overall an amazing piece!
