How to Make Hearty Pot Pie--Ladai'Jah

In Honor of the cold days when you just want to stay in the house I am giving my recipe on Pot
Pie because it’s my favorite thing to eat with my family on days we stay inside on rainy cold days. It’s a fun way to get everyone involved and having fun when you are stuck in the house. The Pies are warm with different flavors that burst in your mouth. With chicken that melts in your mouth and veggies that don’t taste like veggies makes this pie the best from the thinly sliced carrots to coarsely chopped onions.
Here are the Ingredients you will need:
  • ●  1 can(10 3⁄4 ounces) condensed chicken broth.
  • ●  1 1⁄3 cups water, divided 4 medium carrots, thinly sliced.
  • ●  ( about 1 1⁄2 cups) 3 medium red potatoes, scrubbed and diced (about 1 1⁄2 cups ) 2
    tablespoons olive oil.
  • ●  2 cups quartered medium mushrooms 1 medium onion, coarsely chopped.
  • ●  1 cup frozen peas. 1⁄3 cup all-purpose flour.
  • ●  1 refrigerated unbaked picrust (for 9-inch pie) 2 1⁄2 cups chopped cooked chicken. Makes
    6 servings
Step one: Combine broth with 1 cup water adding carrots and potatoes in a medium saucepan Make sure to bring to a boil: (reduce heat and simmer over low heat 10 minutes.)
Step two: Preheat oven to 412 degrees F heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.( if you don't have olive oil you can replace it with what you have) Step three: Add mushroom and onion; saute until softened, in about 5 minutes Stir in broth mixture and peas.( this is done on a
separate skillet) Make sure to whisk remaining 1⁄3 cup water into flour until smooth; Whisk into vegetable mixture. Increase heat to medium-high;bring to boil.
Step four: Spread out pie crust on floured surface. Measure and roll, if necessary, to fit 1-inch larger than top of a 2-quart shallow baking dish.
Step five : Place crust over filling; trima fluce edge. Cut a scalloped round from center with a cookie cutter.( to make it easier)
Step six: Bake until filling is bubbly and crust is browned ,about 20 minutes.
Step seven: let it sit for about 2 mins giving it time to cool off.(Then its all ready to eat)
Make sure to not forget your chicken broth or your pie will be dry and possibly burn. If any of the ingredients such as peas, carrots, or even mushrooms are things you don’t like they do not have to be added. Make sure to oil the pan or the dough will stick. The chicken and veggies are the more simpler steps and you don’t need to go out of your way to get the pie crust unless you want to try and make your own. Feel free to add some of the veggies you like or add none at all.

  1. I loveeee chicken pot pie and I thought your recipe was really thorough and informative. I also appreciate how you said that you can add or take away certain vegetables, but gave some warnings about other things. I'll definitely have to try this out, especially because this made me so hungry just reading it. - Fatima J.
