How to make tie dye shirts:
Materials
•
Work area (spread newspaper around
your area so it wont make a mess)
•
Plain white t-shirt (cotton because
it works the best)
•
Colored dye’s of your choice it can be purchased
at any craft store
•
Gloves (to prevent from staining your
hands)
•
Rubber bands
•
Water source (it can be a bucket
filled with water)
How to start making your tie dye
shirt (Spiral)
First
of all there are a ton of different tie dye patterns to do but I'm specifically
going to be talking about the spiral pattern. Before starting wet your plain
white shirt. Then ring it out very well. Open up your shirt and choose anywhere
to start the spiral (most people do it in the middle or at the corner it’s whatever you prefer) pinch the spot
with all four fingers wherever you decided to start at and slowly rotate your
hand to the right until your shirt is completely wrapped into a circle figure.
Now you get 3-4 rubber bands and start wrapping it on your shirt. The rubber
bands should be on like a “t” figure
with a rubber band through the “t” leaving
6 spots if you used 3 rubber bands and 8 spots if you used four rubber bands.
Now it is time to start putting the dye on. Make sure to put your gloves on so
it wont stain your fingers. Pick whichever dye color you want and put it on a
section or two. (If you choose to use the same color for two sections, I
suggest you put it diagonal from the other one) Once you finish putting the dye
on your going to want to squeeze out any extra dye on it because you don’t want too much dye on your shirt so
then it wont look messy. Now it’s time to put your shirt outside to dry for about a day or
two until it is completely dried. Okay so it has been 24 or 48 hours later,
your shirt should be done you are going to want to grab your shirt and place it
under cold water rinsing out any of the leftover dye (you will know if you got
all the dye once your water comes out clear) Lastly, run it in the washer by
itself for the first time with no soap! Don’t worry after you wash it once it can start getting washed
with other clothes. I hope you try this out and like the outcome of your shirt!
This informs the reader of the involved process in detail.
ReplyDeleteThis "how to" took me back in time to when I was little and we used to do tie dye every Fourth of July. I like how you included a set of materials, especially the gloves.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've always wanted to make a tie dye shirt but i didn't know how. This was very informative. Good job.

ReplyDeleteGood job Kiona! :) Very informative piece especially since tie dye shirts are a new trend. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! The first time I did tie dye shirts was last summer so your set of instructions was easy for me to understand and picture. However, if it was my first time, I would've been already confused with the first step, wetting the shirt. I wouldn't know if you had to wet the entire shirt or a portion of it with what type of liquid (obviously water) because it wasn't really specific. Besides being a little more specific with your steps, your piece was great and I loved this "how to." (:
ReplyDeleteI think we should bring back dye shirt as a fashion, pretty detailed How To.
ReplyDeleteWell, I now know how to make a tie dye shirt.

ReplyDeleteThis was very informative. I have made one tie dye shirt in my 17 years of existence and I found it extremely confusing with the rubber band tying portion. But it was well worth it. This is very detailed and those of us who are less visual and more into reading will appreciate this piece. Great work! :D
ReplyDeleteIt's always a little tough to get through the detail of a how to, but your piece is well defined, with a clear separation of the tasks. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYou went into great depth on how to do each individual step, which makes it an effective "how to." You provided some great tips that you don't always see everywhere, such as the gloves. Great job!
