Diversity--Tay

Try to imagine a world where there is absolutely nothing to differentiate one person from another. What if everywhere you turned, everything and everyone were the same? People wearing the same clothes, the same colors, the same hairstyle; people of the same race, people with the same perception, and the same way of life…every single thing exactly the same. I hope you agree that that would be tremendously boring and dull. A world like that would be no world at all. Diversity is what allows us to learn and see things differently from each other. It lets individuals be defined for who they are. It is what makes us unique and opposite. For instance, if everyone was forced to think the same way; there would be no advancements in technology, medicine, science, society, etc. That is because no one would have ever thought outside of the norm to produce the theories, potential possibilities, and incredible ideas that made the world what it is today. Diversity is innovation and development. Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, helped produce a new generation of technology and the way people use it by thinking ahead and challenging himself to make improvements. Diversity is the influence of distinction. It is the reason we try to find new ways to rip our jeans and tie our shoe laces. It is the drive that forces us to want to be creative and artistic because we know that standing out is a great thing. It is what gives us desire to leave a lasting impression. Diversity is the key to growth and improvement. It is what lets humans evolve mentally and physically. If people like Martin Luther King did not go against what most of society, at the time claimed was right, majority of us would not have any of the privileges we do now. A standing opinion can lead to a long lasting revolution in social reform for the benefit of all. Diversity is hope. It is what leads us to believe that things can change and get better. It is what gives us aspirations to achieve our goals. Diversity is what makes us special. The variety of cultures introduces us to intriguing languages, food, and music. It creates our backgrounds and beliefs. Diversity is opinion. It is what creates discussion in the classroom and makes us question our own thoughts. It is what makes us stand up for what we believe in. Diversity is what brings us together. It is a way for us to connect on different levels. It is what makes us eager to know more about each other. Diversity is what you and I are made from. Do not conform to society’s beliefs about how things should be done. Do things your own way, create and share new ideas, step outside of the comfort zone, and explore the endless possibilities. Diversity is a variety of things. Now, I ask you again…Try to imagine a world where there is absolutely nothing to differentiate one person from another.

  2. I love this piece because the encouragement of individuality, Diversity among individuality is a special thing as you said without thinking outside the box we'd be nowhere. Diversity in this world is what makes us special and it's a wonderful thing.

  3. Someone should really bring this up to Trump. The dynamic of diversity is so important to the world, but very few seem to truly understand what it brings about and how special the fact of the matter is, I'm glad that this piece really exposed that fact in a well written way. - Alyssa Tandoc, Per 4

  4. A world I'd prefer not to be apart of is what all that was lol. A great abstract idea though and something that made me ponder about the world I exist in today. So thank you causing me to take a step back and think, I hope others do as well.

  5. I like this and I appreciate it because I feel like sometimes diversity and people being different is sort of looked down on it today's society and we don't really appreciate it as much as we should and I like the points you made they where very true it's nice to know you look at things with that prospective

  6. I think sometimes we are just so used to having so much diversity that we do not sit back to think how much our world is better because of diversity. I think we are truly lucky to have diversity, and I'm glad you brought this topic up.

  7. I agree with you completely. Diversity is essential to humans, and without it we would all be the same. It is scary to imagine a world where everyone is the same... I couldn't handle it. Great job!

  8. After reading this you made me realize that we take diversity for granted. We're so used to it being around that we don't really stop to think about how we would be affected if it wasn't around. I think we should should be grateful for diversity because it makes us who we are and it makes this world what it is. Very well written, I love your message. - Aileen Munoz

  10. Diversity is an absolutely necessary part of having an infinitive and ever advancing world. Without people that think, act, and learn differently, we would have no one to think outside the box and make new and amazing things. Nice job!

  11. Very well written and it made me think about how society truly is and that being diverse can lead to more success because they are not staying within the same capacities of everyone. Great idea to bring up especially with todays day and age.

  12. I really like what you had to say because it shines light on a problem that is present in the world we live in today. We tend to judge others for their differences, whether it's in appearances or beliefs. Through your examples, we see how diversity is crucial for improvement and how acceptance of diversity is crucial for peace.

  13. I appreciate this piece because in one's life, there are so many factors that place regulations on what is expected for each of us to perform. By abiding by all of these regulations people will find themselves conforming and living a systematic life. Life should be nothing short of organic and expression. Great job.

  15. What fun would it be if we were all the same? Diversity is able to introduce new and different ideas that we're not used to. I love it!

  16. The area we live in is very diverse, I remember one of my teachers told me that people from other countries come to Southern California to study how we get along despite our differing backgrounds. I like how this piece touched on the fact that the achievements and future innovations of the modern world occur because of diversity. Overall, great concept and great piece.

  17. I love how you brought in different definitions to the word diversity that were universal, but also felt personal to you. It made me think about the things in my life and what i see that would be very different if diversity was nonexistent. I felt the emotion build up as the entry went on and it really made me feel your connection to the word.

  19. Diversity is what makes places like Etiwanda a great place to go to school. I truly detest the we're all humans argument that dismiss the aspects of our lives that make us different. We need diversity to make things change and mix things up. Thank you for the submission.

  23. I am so glad that someone finally said it! Diversity is something that should be celebrated not looked down upon. I enjoyed how you contrast the world with diversity and if we were to not have any at all.

  25. We do have diversity and it is important but it seems to be there is no diversity in personality these days, we claim to be different and travel against the flow, but we often flow right along with everything.

  26. This is really great! It reminds us as a whole to never be afraid to be ourselves. Indeed, our world would be extremely boring if everything was the same and there was no diversity around us.

  33. The multiple meanings of diversity emphasized its importance in a world where it is okay to be different and to not always be what other expect, I loved how you approached such an important life lesson many fail to understand.

  34. One of the ironic perplexities of life, at least in my opinion, is the stress society places on us to be different, and go against the grain. But only if you manage to achieve individualism while still molding to what society deems as worthy of acceptance. I think this is what makes diversity so hard to attain, but when it its achieved it is quite powerful in making us better individuals. Great job and excellent usage of the repetitious phrase, "diversity is". It provided great emphasis on the point you were trying to make and even made your piece all the more persuasive.

  36. One of my favorite aspects of this piece is that you had the phrase "Diversity is..." in here more than a couple of times, yet each time the word at the end was different, the words had diversity. Great job and wonderful message Tay.

  38. Great piece, and brings up an important issue of what diversity means to us as human beings. Made me also think about the importance of individuality as well. Great Work!

  39. Thank you for writing this piece, I think we all need a reality check on what diversity is. We are so caught up with making everyone the same, that we forget that we are different from the minute the randomness of our genes are allocated. Some people get mad because we dedicate day's, weeks even months to a certain culture, we do it to not only inform but to encourage diversity and to learn from it. Nice work!!!

  41. Lovely message, different is wonderful and makes each of us our own! This is incredibly relevant to Brave New World right now, where even the people only allowed to be different are the top caste of society and there truly is a world where- truthfully- almost no one is different. And we have glimpse of how terrible that is.

  42. Wow!! You are so right. I love your post its was amazing and refreshing to read.

  43. Diversity should be accepted and encouraged, but it should not encourage disunity. The most effective society is a group of individuals working to better all people. YOu were able to convey this effectively.

I'd love to hear more about diversity being the "Key to growth",as I agreed with this and wondered about your perception on it.
