Ian--Life and Goals After High School

There’s nothing more difficult than trying to figure out what must be pursued in our lives at some point. Nothing in life is easy unless enough work and confidence is put into it no matter how crazy our dream is. Where will our dream take us? Well that’s the journey of our lives, our search for our definition of success. Even though, this may be my first year in high school, it’s important to think forward and plan ahead. There are three domains in my life that may be currently a work in progress, but I am willing to follow this journey. Pursuing a Film career in work relations may be a goal, especially when aiming to become a film director. I would also want to make a difference in my father’s business by further managing his company to the next level. Lastly, a state of recognition such as earning an Academy Award or an Oscar for some film projects I’ve directed in the future would be the biggest success from the three.
It may be hard to pursue a film career, but I feel that confidence and patience is the key to become a successful director, actor, or anyone involved in the film industry. Creativity I feel is a major tool to this process, especially when aiming to become a film director. This process is not only competitive but it may take a while to accomplish but again, it’s not forever.  Competing in small film competitions is the first step to this process. It is always a good idea to have some sort of experience such as producing few small budget films, being familiar with camera equipment, and learning to work with different minds when competing in these contests. Competitions are always helpful because they inspire me to keep making short movies and I might be noticed by a few independent film producers after high school. During my senior year, after a few months of trying to land in small roles through the film industry I would also be attending a university to finish earning my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and move on to attending UCLA for grad school. A master’s in Cinematic arts would be the key to head on to the big industries. Thinking ahead after high school and college, after I’ve competed in some film festivals, finished school, I would later volunteer or get an internship in some small organization studios in Burbank even if I have to be the man holding the mic. The purpose to this process is to gain a little more experience as much as I can. The last step to this would be saving up money to direct my first feature length film while also finishing school. Overall this process may take time but I feel this is a great start to think forward.
I would also want to make a difference in my father’s business by further managing his company to the next level. My father’s taco restaurant has been selling for almost 20 years ever since I was a child. My father always wanted great education for me. As a child my passion was film but he wanted me to study business because film is a very competitive major and not everyone gets in the industry. Until I realized that I could maybe combine both majors after high school. But just having the thought that my father had sacrificed so much by driving all the way down to Los Angeles and come back safe to make sure we’d attend school. I felt like I had to repay him and I felt that taking on the business would be a great and successful gift. I’ve worked with my father in his taco business a little bit. Since I’m still considered under age it’s not really easy to work. For future references, I would want to learn the basics to how to run the restaurant and for it to keep selling which would be my first step to this process. My second step would be to keep running it for many years from now until I raise money to open another restaurant while also attending school. I would always try to make time for it. Lastly I would advertise his company in some of my films sponsored by a company I will work with. Who knows what the future might hold but I feel his business will make it far in life! And I’m willing to help his legacy continue growing.
Earning an Academy Award or an Oscar trophy for some film projects I’ve directed would be a great state of recognition. From my perspective this domain may be the hardest one of the three and probably won’t be accomplished until I’m in my 50’s. After I’ve had the opportunity of attending school, helping my father’s business becoming successful, and worked on a few films I would think outside the box. Since I’ve done everything I wanted to do at a young age I would make a few scripts with Oscar nominated actors and producers to make sure the script would become an Oscar nominated film. Until this point, the second step would be for the film to have a few Oscar nominations and awards. Not everyone gets an Oscar! Lastly, the most memorable step would be to give thanks to the important people that made this possible for me. Overall being specific about this certain domain was very hard but again it is what I am aiming for till this day.
Nothing in life is easy unless enough work and confidence is put into it no matter how crazy our dream is, even though these domains are very completive to accomplish. Again, pursuing a Film career in work relations maybe be a goal especially when aiming to become a film director. The second step would be making a difference in my father’s business by further managing his company when I get older. Lastly, a state of recognition such as earning an Academy Award or an Oscar trophy from some film projects I’ve directed. Dreaming big is a big goal for me but as I go through this process I hope that these goals turn out to become strengths as I apply them to my talents. Nothing is easy to accomplish, I need to work for it and learn from my mistakes. I might be too young to accomplish this now but there’s nothing wrong with dreaming big.  If I haven’t made any mistakes during this process, what have I truly learned?

  11. I've noticed that existentialism and aspirations have been common themes in the writing on this blog. Your piece embodies both, but I love reading writing like yours because it gives me food for thought. It's interesting how meticulously you've planned out your future. Best of luck to you in accomplishing your goals! Nice job.

  15. (I'm not sure if my last one posted.)
This seems like a clear-cut plan and with the power of youth at your side, nothing's impossible. Just stick to this and I promise you'll go far. I really loved the way you articulated your ideas into one. It really delivered your message and drive perfectly.

  16. Having plans is great but don't have hope, hope make you feel like you have the power to control fate. Those who think they have the power to control fate will be disappointed.
