Aaron--Work

As I sit here writing this now, I struggle to formulate my thoughts and put them on paper. I have several experiences in which I want to convey to you the reader, hoping that you will walk away with just a little bit of knowledge gained. But my experiences are mine, and while I may think you can feel the emotion I felt in each of them just by reading about it, you can’t. In life we are on a journey of our own. Sure, we may see people along the way and receive support and guidance and help along the way, but at the end of the day the only person that is held accountable for your actions is you.

I believe that each and every individual is put on this earth with a purpose. Some find it and fulfill it, some don’t find it and their purpose dies along with them. However, the people I feel most sorry for are the ones who do find their purpose, but do not fulfill it. To have success right in your grasp and to not make it is a terrible thing. If you ever find your purpose in life, if you ever think up some outrageous and daring dream, chase it. Don’t let the opportunity to do something great pass you by. Don’t let in the moment priorities and actions destroy your chance to be something great down the road. You can’t go through life living in the moment, but should always think of the objective that lies ahead. Maybe you are tired, but what if getting up that much earlier to go for a run makes you better? You do want to hang out with friends, but what if staying home and studying turns that B into an A? The question is, “what are you willing to do to ensure no stone goes unturned in order to be the best you?”

But you see, this journey of reaching our full potential is more than just taking an opportunity. You have to work for it. You have to put in grueling hours to get better and sometimes it isn’t going to happen or something won’t go your way. But that does not mean to quit. The worst thing a person can do is work towards a goal and when it gets tough, throw in the towel and walk away. Failures build success. It’s that simple. You can’t learn from a mistake and work to be better without failing not once, not twice, but multiple times. So how do you stay on the grind when it gets tough? You keep that end, that goal, that dream in sight. You zero in on what is to come of all the blood, sweat, and tears and you push through. Les Brown, a motivational speaker, once said, “When life knocks you down, try and land on your back because if you can look up, you can get up.”

As I conclude this writing, I hope to have reached some of you. But the fact of the matter is, I most likely didn’t. In life, you have to walk your own path. You have to see the mistakes, the pain, the trials and the errors all on your own before you can understand what it means to work towards a purpose. And the greatest thing of all is that we can never stop growing. There is always a new path, a new goal, and a new dream to work towards each offering a new lesson.

  1. I just want to say thanks for writing this piece. This gives us seniors some great words of wisdom before we leave this nest, called high school and enter to a world of negativity. Because there's haters out there that wish they were doing something positive and reaching their dreams but they can't because they are holding themselves back. I think this is very insightful to all of us ! Great Work

  2. I like this message because no matter who you are, where you come from, you can always discover goals that can motivate you to be dedicated everyday, until you cross that finish line. Great job!

  3. Your Abstract Idea piece was enriching and humanizing. The concepts and lessons themselves are not hard to understand and are not hard to apply and yet most people do not. These things that you said are all powerful.

  5. I've always admired your work ethic. No matter what, you always give 110% into whatever you're doing, whether it be the gym, the marine corps, school, or even our relationship. Critically, I enjoyed the attitude as well as implementation of real life experiences and quotes. I especially enjoyed how you really reached your audience within the final paragraph. You are a motivational speaker yourself, and believe it or not, you do acquire the capability to move those around you. It's difficult to find people with such a headstrong attitude, especially within today's complacent and entitled society. You inspire me every single day to be a better myself and achieve my own goals. Thank you.

  6. WOW AARON, I HONESTLY WAS NOT EXPECTING SUCH WORDS OF WISDOM COMING FROM YOU! LOL, ANYWAYS.. this is by far the best piece I've read ever since August because there's just so much realization that hits me and it actually pushes me to strive even more to fulfill my goals in life. I love every single line from top to bottom, so great job!

  8. To be honest I am jealous of you for how great your work ethic is. I think this piece speaks especially to those who are not like you - to those who have a hard time finding motivation fulfilling their purpose. As a senior, I know what I want to do in college, but this year I have fallen far behind, and with success so close, I would not be able to handle it if I could not reach it.
I read this in your voice, and I can tell you're a great motivational speaker, and hopefully some of your knowledge can rub off on me through your words. Thank you, and amazing work!

  32. Well you're quite the motivational speaker. Thanks for sharing your work. One of my favorite quotes from your price was, " when life knocks you down...land on your back.." As I was reading this I thiught, ' well what if I land on my back and permanently damage my spine?' Quite negative I know. But then I thiughh, hey people have been injured but never let that get in their way of stabling up and pursuing their goals. Your work made me assets my self. Thanks for sharing your work.

  42. Wow. I'm honestly shocked—in a good way. Your writing style is so… sophisticated it makes me jealous. There's a beat in your voice that makes think of the early 1900s, and it makes me envy your ability to pull off such serene writing when I never can.
Your piece itself was inspiring to levels I can't describe. There was so much depth to this, and I'm awed at how both the style and the idea are so perfectly sewn together.
This was really, really good. I give you props, Aaron.

  48. Very motivational. I can sort of feel an inner flame ignited to continue to work hard and recover from mistakes. It reminds most of seniors that as this is not the end of the journey, but a transition to a higher level where even more sacrifices will be made in exchange for greater goals.
