Cienna--Feminism

I am sad to inform you this is not a story. I wrote this to stress the importance of feminism. I realize most will find this uninteresting and stupid. You probably rolled your eyes just looking at the title, and I apologize. I felt that it is important that people know the truth and the real meaning and not just assume that they know what it is from information the gathered from others. Some may call this a rant. I just call this addressing a problem that has yet to be fixed.
Where in the bible does it say Adam was more important than Eve? From what I recall, men need women to bare children. No, this is not a bible lesson but what im trying to figure out where men got this funny idea that they’re more important… that they’re stronger and women are weak. It seems like the people in this world came to a funny conclusion that women were put on this earth to please men. Women were not put here to serve. Its weird that women raise their daughters to cattier to their man. I constantly hear, “No man wants a girl who doesn’t cook and clean for him.” Can men not do for themselves? It’s quite sad that society puts this image in a young girl’s mind that she is to grow up, have children and keep her husband happy. Women deserve to pick and choose how they should live without someone looking down upon her.
What is “ladylike”? Since I was a little girl I have refused to be ladylike. My mom never gave me a real reason to why she said so. I always wondered if that was her or the rest of society. Society says women should love their body and be comfortable with it but whenever a girl does so she is constantly body shamed. If girls don’t dress “appropriately” we’re teasing boys, right? Wrong. I shouldn’t have to go to school wondering if im going to get dresscoded because my bra strap is showing. I didn’t know boys were unaware that females wear bras. But then again ignorance is bliss.

  1. The fact that you wrote about what many consider as a controversial topic shows that you have an immense amount of courage. This piece is very relatable, as I also believe in gender equality and the unfair advantage that usually comes out of traditions. It's time we change those traditions and take action. The current feminist movement has provided a medium of transition. Today, many important women are pushing for equal pay in the workforce, we could only imagine what's to come for tomorrow. With that said, you do a good job in relating the topic of Feminism and Biblical references. My one piece of advice, would be to never apologize for writing anything, for writing is a gateway of venting in itself. Typically when people write, they write to share some occurrence with the general public. And you should not be apologizing for writing about a misconception. Keep up the good work, and push forward. Great job.

  3. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Hope exists within humanity. I couldn't help but smile to myself as I was being uplifted inside. I love how you connected your opinion to the bible--the oldest piece of literature known to mankind, and transitioned it to modern day society. As a freshman, you are powerful with your words, and that's sadly hard to find nowadays. I only hope that you keep growing more empowered within this male-dominated society.

  4. Great job writing about feminism. I for sure did not roll my eyes or think that this was stupid. I am actually very proud that someone wrote about something that is so important to many people. Equality is something that we should all continue to fight for and by writing this you make it possible.

  5. This piece was so intense and I can just envision how this piece creates such a bold tone on this controversial topic. I like how you're confident throughout the piece and how you clarify what a woman should be like in society by living up to their own expectations and not pleasing their spouse.

  6. You did an amazing job, not only with the actual writing of the piece but also with the sensitivity to such a controversial topic. It shows great maturity, not just in yourself but also in your writing. You had a few spelling errors here and there (cater not cattier) but overall, amazing job.

  8. You have more guts than most people, not only for writing on this topic, but for creating your own view of yourself since you were a child and not blindly following how people told you to act because of your gender. Although I think making quite a few stereotypes against men was a little harsh, I can tell you are very independent. Good work!

  31. This piece was very refreshing to read. It is a very raw and honest stream of consciousness. Frankly, I think the world needs more people like you. It takes a lot of bravery to speak out about issues that outrage you. Although this is only one piece of writing on a high school English blog, it speaks bounds because it shows initiative to foster change in the world. Thank you for sharing!

  35. I agree wholeheartedly when you say women weren't born into this world to cater to men. My parents are traditional and this often times conflict with my opinion which includes the role of women. You wrote about something you felt strongly about. Don't apologize for it. i won't lie and say that this is the first work that I've read about feminism but what I do like about your work is your own experience and how you related this to feminism. It bring out your personality. My one concern is grammar,. Beyoncé that I enjoyed your work. Thanks for sharing.

  39. Well, I'm not a girl, but I think you have a really good argument. Even though I see girls at school wearing practically NOTHING. Good job!

  40. It's good that you feel so strongly about a cause. It's particularly applicable to women in countries like Iraq and Syria. Arguments were well thought out, just watch your spelling and tenses.

  46. This is very brave blog to write simply because everyone has their own opinion on certain topics which are extreme polar with no compromise. I simply feel too old to even say my opinion because those going to agree is going to agree and those going to disagree will disagree.

  47. Feminism is a strong topic to write on to light a fire under the reader's heart when they read it. and my interest was piqued throughout. Good job.
