The Meaning of Love--Maddy

Love is an abstract idea that everyone in their life has inevitably gone through at least once, whether it is with a friend, family member, or even an activity. According to merriam webster there is many different meanings for example, “a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties'' as well as “affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests” and then the last one “the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration.” The many different definitions come from the same place, a feeling of great emotion either towards the person or activity. Being able to have this emotion, the feelings evidently makes your life better, to confide in someone when having a rough day, to just being able to sit with someone, as well as pulling yourself in an activity where it is just fun and you lose yourself in it. Love is an emotion that is achievable by anyone even the most horrible person could use love to see the good in the world and it someone. While it can also be a dangerous meaning, loving someone to the point of killing or harming another person could be on one end of the extreme. Unfortunately with any emotion you get the positive and the negative views and actions from people. The love of a sport could turn into an obsession and will not be able to think about anything else, to the point of exhaustion. Then on the positive side of love you change your life to save yourself, to love someone to the point where you start caring, worrying about yourself for the first time in a while. Loving who you are as a person and your life in general is the first step in the direction of making yourself and your surroundings better. Love is also a feeling of trust with someone in your life. Being able to trust someone in your life could make a world of difference because it is someone that you are able to confide in with anything that will keep your emotions stable. You can trust someone so much that you trust them with your life and it could also be dangerous because it could end up being the wrong person, but if it's the right person it could be considered a soulmate either platonically or romantically. Having that much trust in a person is one of the best things you could have in your life in the end because you will always have someone there for you to talk with and to just simply be comfortable enough to sit in silence and just be. Overall love is evidently a complex emotion that could be defined in many different ways and you are able to express it and feel it in many different ways. You are able to choose how you want to express it and whom you would wish to express it romantically with a significant other or platonically with your best friend that has been with you since you were ten.

  1. Hearing another persons view on something everyone knows about is always interesting. Anyone can answer what love is, but everyone answers differently as it has a different meaning to them. Also, I appreciate your mention of platonic love as many people commonly only view love as romantic based. -Francisco Rosales

  2. The entire piece, from the title to the last sentence, was very intriguing. When you explain the many different aspects love can be shown or seen, it opens my eyes. I believe you talked about a very open topic and wrote very well with your explanations. Good job!

  3. Love can be such an interesting emotion. Love can look differently to anyone and I like that about love. I really liked how you mentioned the downsides of love since everyone seems to think love only really has positives but never take the time to see if its too much, it can be dangerous. Nice job on your blog!:)

  4. Interesting to hear the different types of love people can describe because as you said, at the end of the day, everyone's definition of love is not the same. Loved reading this piece.

  5. I really like how you contrasted the different types of love with a way they can benefit you and a way they can harm you. However, the end sort of implies the fact that one has the decision to love and express it despite those risks, and I enjoy that. -Giana Nunez
