Ode to my Sister’s Dog Lucy--Jordan

My dear Lucy, you are such a beautiful sight.

How I love the way you bark, run, and jump,

You take over my thoughts day and night,

always being about the awesome hugs.

When compared to a great starry night,

You are still more bright and mesmerizing.

You are also more amazing than a picnic in July,

And summertime’s glory is already hard to exceed.

Why do I admire you? There are too many reasons why.

I love your dark eyes, loudness and strength.

Your presence makes me forget about saying “goodbye”,

and makes my love for you of endless length.

When I must go away with great sorrow,

Please don’t forget me until the next visit follows.

  1. Jordan, I am sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is always hard especially since they welcome you as you enter home, as you go to sleep, and as you do your work. Your imagery and playful tone makes me visualize how friendly, loyal, and inspiring your best friend was. Thank you for writing this poem. It brings the reader peace and appreciation to really spend time with their pets. Outstanding, Jordan! -Laylah Perez

  2. Hi Jordan! I really loved your piece! Your adjectives did a great job of showing how this dog makes you feel, and I couldn't help but think about my own dogs while I was reading. Great job!
