The relationship I have with my Dad is a relationship that will never be replaced. We
have always been extremely close ever since I was younger. My sophomore year I started to seriously look into colleges out of state and I could tell that it bothered my Dad yet he still supported me and took me to visit colleges that were interested in having me play soccer for them last year during spring break. We went to three different schools in Ohio, Illinois, and Pittsburgh. The schools were extremely beautiful and I stayed overnight at each school with a girl from the soccer team. I got to stay in the dorms, see all the facilities, and meet the coaches but I missed my Dad who was staying down the street in a hotel. Missing him made me reconsider whether or not an out of state school away from him and my family was something I could handle. My grandma lives in New York and my Dad and I had decided to surprise her on our way to tour Washington. My Dad has been living apart from my Grandma for close to ten years and he had not seen her in five years. Going back to see her was extremely emotional for all three of us. I could tell that my Dad really missed my grandma and it was difficult for him to be away from her. He told me on the ride to Washington that he regrets not showing his Mom how appreciative he was for everything his Mom has done for him. When we came home from the trip I realized how much my Dad has done for me. He has been my biggest support system ever since I was younger. From simply helping me when my 5th grade math homework, being

This is great. I personally do not have a relationship with my father, but I can practically feel the love and deepness within your relationship just by your writing. Really beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful story Ainsley. The love and support you have with your father was captivating to read about and the way you explained it in your story through reflecting on your experiences was amazing!
ReplyDeleteI think it's very rare for a parent to be a guardian and a best friend at the same time. Not many people are fortunate enough to experience that kind of relationship with their parents, but you are and I completely understand why you would hesitate to go away for college. Your dad has been a constant support system in your life, so to think that you won't be able to see him everyday may seem scary. However, since your dad has always been there for you, I highly doubt that he's going to let a few states stop him from seeing or calling you. In fact, he might call too much and you might be thankful that there are a couple of states between you two. Luckily, you'll be able to get away with, "I can't hear you dad, you're breaking up."
ReplyDeleteThis is a very heartwarming story and I envy your strong, intimate relationship with you father & wish that I had the same. Your blog post provided more insight to who you are and your family dynamic, and I learned something about you that I didn't know before. The perspective you offered into your story made me feel like I knew your dad, too. Awesome job!!

I often find that my dad's support has helped me more than anything, so it was very easy for me to relate to this story. Beautiful job constructing how deeply you appreciate your dad and giving those specific examples to your college visits. Great story!
ReplyDeleteThis piece is great! The connect you and your dad have seems very close, and one can definintly observe this when reading this piece. it is awesome that your dad has had such a positive influence in your life.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written :)) I loved the parallels between you and your father in terms of realizing the importance of relationships with your parents. Anyone could see how lucky you are to have such a caring dad in your life. -Mackenzie M.
ReplyDeleteThis was a beautiful story! Nowadays it seems uncommon for kids to have a close relationship with their parents. A lot of our peers explain how they can't even talk to their parents, so reading about your relationship with your dad was very warming. I think sometimes we all get to carried away with activities and school that we forget to stop and appreciate what is right in front of us. Overall, beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteThat's good you have a close relationship/friendship with your Dad. You're very lucky to have this with your Dad. Nice story!
ReplyDeleteThis was incredibly sweet and amazing. I love that you have an excellent relationship with your father. The fact that you openly talk about it just goes to show that you really enjoy your parents, whereas some kids will non stop blame theirs' for a lot of things. I especially love that you connected how close your dad was to your grandma that actually shows it runs in your family. Based on this, it just makes even more sense as to why you are such a great person...you had an incredible Dad that showed you the right way! - Royston
ReplyDeleteThis was so wholesome! I love it when people are not afraid of expressing their feelings towards their parents in a positive light. Overall great piece.
ReplyDeleteI think that your piece connects with a lot of readers, especially since we are all seniors right now and are preparing to live away from our parents for the first time. I'm having troubles leaving my parents as well because I am an only child and have always depended on them. Thank you for sharing about your relationship with your dad :D
ReplyDeleteI love this! I personally do not have a good relationship with my dad, so this is very special to me. I think your reader is able to understand and feel the love for your father and the passion you have for soccer. Great word choice, it could be expanded a little, however, it was short and sweet and to the point. :)
ReplyDeletethis is such a heartwarming piece because of the connection and relationship you expressed with your father and the fact that many dont have similar connections like this one you have, it makes it special. sharing this with all of us as your peers is also impressive to me because some people prefer not to open up about things involving family. -harmony fowler
