The Fault In Our Stars Book Review--Jaleen

The romantic and tragic book, “The Fault In Our Stars'', written by John Green,

published on January 10th, 2012 is a classic, young adult novel. This book discusses the

upsides and downsides of a young couple experiencing the detrimental effects of cancer. The

characters Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace Lancaster fall for one another almost instantly

and their love for each other vividly flourishes throughout the story. Their connection

immediately strengthens within each other after they exchange their favorite literary pieces. This

is the starting point to an unmatched love story from our generation. Throughout the book, one

of the most prevalent themes is that of love & friendship, this relationship that was formed

shows love from an entirely different perspective. They equally supported each other from Day 1

& granted each other with ultimate happiness and respect throughout their tough journey as

victims of cancer. Their love is unmatched as they venture together across the country to grant

Hazel's wish, filling the missing puzzle pieces of her favorite book, ‘An Imperial Affliction’. They

dive into their romantic side during this trip and really begin to showcase their emotional

connection with one another. The moments of intimacy in the book aren't as dramticising as

other literary pieces, it discusses such delicate acts of intimacy which differs from today's

acknowledgment of intimacy. Moments like staring deep into each other's eyes and kissing

publicly in another country makes their relationship so exhilarating to read. As they battle

through their diseases together, they don't allow it to subside their ultimate dreams in their life.

This book is a whole array of emotions which makes it all so much more relatable. Most love

stories show such unrealistic standards and situations that we sometimes hope to endeavor.

On the upside, “The Fault in Our Stars” showcases a love that is all so real, containing aspects

of realism, especially with the obvious shadow of death lingering and appearing as the dark side

of their relationship. Augustus truly falls for Hazel as he tries his best to grant her greatest

wishes and fulfill her happiness even though his health is quickly deteriorating. Another

prominent theme in the story is that of struggle and grief, it's always conflicting that they are

both sick and nothing can predetermine what the future holds for such a magnificent couple.

Both of their lives are being subsidized by their health but the most lovely part of it is that their

love wins through all the tough situations they experience. Grief of another is what wants to be

avoided but quickly becomes a heartbreaking point in the book. Having to express to each other

they aren't okay is filled with constant scares & assumptions that it could potentially be their

very last day. Their love is so pure and their personalities are so alike, they match each other's

energy and are completely understanding of each other since they are both aware of the effects

of cancer. One of the most impacting aspects of the book is that it encourages a level of hope

even with tragedy. It ties in levels of creativity unlike any other novel & really immerses itself into

specific, lovely dialogue between one another. One of the great things about the book is the fact

that it's an atypical love story which makes it all so much more interesting. Augustus' character

simply ties it all together by not only giving us readers the perspective that we want to see in a

significant other but with such beauty & power. This book creates a piece of artwork for readers

to forever enjoy to visualize any sense of emotional connection in terms of love or grief. The

book contributes so much emotional appeal and portrays such loveliness by creating questions

& thoughts. It makes me rethink life in a surface level way but also in a deeper way. It allows me

to think about how love is truly seen and how is life ever good after tragedy? It opens up such

levels of information and analysis. Also, the end isn't how we all expect with happiness & a

happily ever after ending. It shows such rarenes & tragedy but it allows room for “why” or “If’,

flying through your head day and night on the reasons for the occurrence. It questions if life is

worth living for or if it's all just a facade that everyone believes in for comfort. Even with a wide

spectrum of opinions, there is no denying the entertainment that the book offers, it proves a

different culture of reading. Usually books don't have such a particular effect, but this one is

forever aweing & inspiring .
