Scone - [ skōn,skohn] In my family we used to do almost nothing together, from eating to simply
watching television. My sister began using baking as an opportunity for us to get together and have some
fun. Knowing my siblings and i all have a sweet tooth, she began using baking to involve us in the kitchen
by learning to bake our favorite desserts. I chose to share her blueberry scone making recipe. One of the
first things we baked together were scones. A scone is a small cake or bread made of wheat, oatmeal, or
barley. Most scones are often times glazed and sweetened with egg wash. Scones were originally flat and
round, like the size of small plate. They originated from scotland ande were served in a full breakfast.
Scones often times get confused with tea cakes and other sugary buns. They take about 15 minutes to
make. Our first scone was a success and now we love cooking almost entirely all the food we consume
together.
I hope you enjoy scones as much as we did! Ingredients :
I hope you enjoy scones as much as we did! Ingredients :
-
● 2 cups of flour
-
● 1 tablespoon of baking powder
-
● pinch of salt
-
● 2 tablespoon of sugar
-
● 5 tablespoon of butter; (cut in chunks).
-
● 1⁄2 cup of milk
-
● 1egg
-
● 1 cup fresh blueberries
-
● 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions :
1. Preheat the oven to a scorching 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Mix together the ingredients flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
3. Add a small amount of egg and milk. Add more milk if mixture turns out too dry. (Blend mixture to make smooth if needed).
4 . Using forks or a recommended pastry blender, cut in the butter to coat the pieces with the flour.
5. Fold the blueberries into the batter. Try not to mash the blueberries because their strong color will bleed through the dough.
6. Press the dough flat out on a floured surface into a rectangle that’s about 8 x 11 inches.
7. Cut the rectangle in half then do so again. This will give you little squares. Cut those squares
diagonally in half to give the triangle shape.
8. Place the scones on an ungreased aluminum sheet and spread the top with little cream.
9. Let bake for 10-15 minutes until turns light brown (center should be colored). Let the scones cool a while before any glaze is added.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great potential recipe to try. I haven't used blueberries often in recipes but this one sounds like a great way to use them. Adding in personal elements about yourself just make the recipe more attracting.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely going to try this myself. You explained the steps really well and thorough that makes it easy to understand. Keep up the good work!!
ReplyDeleteThe recipe sounded delicious. Thanks for adding a little bit of culinary history to the piece - it added a nice little flare.
ReplyDeleteBethel, I appreciate that each step is easy to understand and the recipe doesn't require many ingredients. I also like your anecdote that preceded the recipe, since it added a personal touch and helps others to understand what a scone is if they haven't already tried one. My sister also loves to bake cakes and pastries so I'll have to show her this recipe!
