Values--Diego

Value is the amount of importance or relevance that anything can have on a person. In past times, and still to this day, the differing values of two people or groups of people has caused a division. War, violence, discrimination. All of these gruesome instances of mankind’s hatred for itself can all be traced back to a difference in values. Unfortunately, mankind is doomed to face this reality head on because no individual can change the complex emotions, conscious, morality and values that every human being holds true to be their own. It is because of this that these showings of grotesque evil are inevitable, unless humanity builds more values. They must prove that they are not just bumbling apes waging war over chunks of the earth.
Value for human life, human health, and human connections may be the missing pieces to solve this puzzle of establishing importance. Perhaps if there was no difference in values, beliefs, opinions and genetics then maybe humanity would have some chance at surviving. The cost of common values and tranquility is creativity. Seven billion robotic sentients looking the same, thinking the same, and growing in unison yet they will lack what makes them human. The divergences of opinion do, indeed, cause great pain for the human race, but for what this concept lacks in safety, it makes up for by giving humanity a soul. The most relevant art, literature, and historical figures are the ones that were not bound by the societal standards of their time but they made their era their own.

  5. It really hit home and makes the reader face a harsh reality about today's society. A necessary commentary on the culture of the world

  6. I loved this piece. I loved how it connects to our society today. With racism and discrimination still thriving in our country, this piece explains one of the main causes for them. If people were raised with values that define all people as equal, regardless of skin color, identity, and cultural background, our country could be powerful as a whole. Instead of wasting time and energy fighting each other, we should unite as a whole and truly become "The United States of America." -Alannah Gray

  7. Very interesting take on the theme of value, I used to look at the values of people as usually a positive thing, however, after reading it changed my outlook on the theme. I especially like the quote "All of these gruesome instances of mankind’s hatred for itself can all be traced back to a difference in values." As this is the quote that changed my outlook on the theme of values.

  8. This complex idea of value used in a context of wars help show how how extreme how differences lead to conflict over anything. This really help simplify the ideas of value and how much impact they play.

  9. While this was on the shorter side, you managed to pack in so much complexity and meaning, which was awesome. Also, you talked about the big issue that society faces with differences in value: while conflicts in value lead to violence, it's also what makes us human. Without our differences, we'd lose our creativity, individuality, and humanity.

  15. Your thoughts on societal values and the contrast between your initial pessimistic and then optimistic attitude towards humanity was very philosophical. The dualistic approach overall created a cohesive message that had a unified purpose in expressing your ideology on humanity's flaws and hopes.

  16. Value is an important characteristic that we all possess, and you did a wonderful job explaining why it is a necessity to humanity. After reading this, it made me reflect on my own personal values and how I am faithful to them as everyone should be. It is what makes us human. And although, our different values can be quite problematic at times, it is, ultimately, how we connect with the rest of society. -Irina C

  17. I like the contrast that you present on the effect of having certain values: division and destruction or unity and growth. I can see how this take on the idea can relate to politics in the creation of interests groups and political parties that are created with the intention of bettering our country. However, these political find themselves in opposition to one another because they have conflicting values and there is no distinct majority to determine who is right. Overall, great insight on a singular idea that makes our minds distinct from one another.

  19. What I like about this abstract idea is that it brings to light the fact that before people go about making decisions, they should look at things from another perspective. Looking at things from other perspectives often brings to light benefits that were not noticed beforehand, and disadvantages that weren't considered. Overall, this topic is an important idea that should be utilized more often as history has shown that many times, the remedy is worse than the problem. - Gilberto Diaz

  21. I very much respect the way you present your ideas on the topic of division based on value. It's especially true in today's world that difference in values have caused numerous divides not only amongst countries but between us as a country. I think you did a phenomenal job describing us as " 7 billion robotic sentients " who have lost what makes us human, and go on to describe that the best writers of literature were the ones not held down by society standards.

  24. I admire how you brought up true facts about how the world is at each others throats because of the different values everyone has. People only like people when they share the same value and or similar event or interest they have with each other. The world is mostly based on values and interest and not cooperation and sympathy. - Jackie Aguilera

  25. This was an interesting take on how value holds itself together. The example with how some art can hold its value was very interesting, but the more I think about it, it's true. The most famous painting is the Mona Lisa, and its a few hundred years old.

  26. I enjoyed the stance you took on "value", it shows the subjectivity of what someone deems valuable and how its necessary for society to have values even tho its also the cause of the destruction of society.

  27. I appreciate the intro given about the topic of what divides us as a world. It gives the lesson of being open minded but still be entitled to have your own opinions and respect others. I also your scenario of, if we were all to think the same humanity could not function properly. The choice of writing makes it obvious how much value is put into this piece.

  28. The use if vocabulary in this peace is extremely powerful and unique. Not only does this give the reader a better view on the importance of value, but we are also shown how open-minded you are with vocabulary, which is what I can relate to.

  30. This piece was very interesting to me after reading "What it means to be Human." The two passeges are very similar to one another but do have a very cool contrasting point. I love that it can make me think if all of our differences are what makes us unique, maybe all of our differences will also be our downfalll.

  33. The main theme of the work has made me not only reevaluate the dictionary definition of value so that there is deeper meaning, but has also made me reevaluate my own personal values. This is an idea that will, no matter what year, be an important and strong one.

  34. Your stance is very interesting. It was important that you introduced how flawed mankind can be due to what makes us human.
