Definition of Success--Madison

There are various ways to describe how someone has become “successful”. Everyone has their own ideas of how they want their lives to be and the things they have to do to get there. Whatever those may be, it most likely means that a person has reached a sense of fulfillment and is happy with their accomplishments. Society has made success seem as though achieving it will be the same for everyone because specific requirements have been met, when in reality an individual sets the standard for the goals they deem important. If someone is content where they are despite not having a high-paying job or their dream car, they can still consider themselves successful even though they don’t necessarily have everything they want. This doesn’t mean that a person’s definition of success can’t be to have everything that they’ve dreamed of, but it still has to do with what we put our minds toward. Success has less to do with what we have, but the state of mind we put ourselves in to feel comfortable and confident about our own actions and beliefs.

  1. I related to your piece a lot. I feel as though some may view success as what is gained from the experience, like materialistic items rather than the state of mind we put ourselves in like you stated. Good job !!

  2. Good assessment on success. Some people think too highly of what success is and thus sometimes over look the small things they've done in life.

  3. I really loved this piece because it is SO prevalent in society today. I love how you mentioned that one doesn’t have to have the highest paying job to be successful because that is often what society labels as success. I totally agree with the overall message that one is successful once they have reached a balanced and happy state of mind for themselves. Overall, great piece!

  4. Good job Maddie!! I agree that society bases success on how much money you make or how nice your material things are. Your assessment that you can be just as happy and successful even if you're not making a ton of money is uplifting.

  5. I think most of society, including myself, can relate to this piece. Like you said, we think success means having everything we've ever dreamed of but in reality its just a state of mind and whatever makes us happy in life. I enjoyed reading your point of view. Great job!

  6. Great piece and view on success, a lot of people don't put enough emphasis on the little things that can potentially bring them success and they often go overlooked. I really enjoyed reading your view on success. Great work!!!

  7. I completely agree with your definition! Society's definition of success is being able to obtain anything we want at anytime, but in reality success is the goal an individual sets and meets. For example, a person can have a lot of money, but can be completely miserable, and a person with less money can still live a happy life, which I consider successful. Overall, Great work! I really enjoyed it!

  8. I've seen, especially lately, that the ideas of wealth and success are being intermixed as if they were the same. Your piece clearly demonstrates that wealth is not what is going to make everyone happy, or feel "successful", and I completely agree with that. We all live for ourselves, with our own goals in mind. Great job!

  10. I agree with your statement regarding the nature of success and believe that everyone's definition of success is shaped based on their unique experiences and personality; thus, it is unjust to subjugate everyone to similar goals, such as college. Insightful piece!

  12. I appreciate that you based the entire passage over the idea that success is measured by oneself. What is considered "successful" to one person may not be deemed passable for another. Overall a good explanation of something that is very hard to define!

  13. This piece caught my attention because I think about this topic often and how I personally will be successful in life. However, I agree with how you said success shouldn't have to primarily come from material items, but from how you got to where you are today and your healthy state of mind. I believe my success comes from those too, and not from materialistic items. Great writing!

I think a lot of us can relate to this piece. While it was brief, it thoroughly gave a positive outlook on how success shouldn't defined by one person's definition. Keep up the good work!

  21. I love your definition of success. I think this was a great topic you chose to write about because it is important for people to be reminded that just because we don't have something that another person has or just because we aren't in the same place as someone else in life doesn't mean that we aren't just as successful. I think a lot of people, including myself, can relate to this and I appreciate you sharing your outlook on success. Great job Madison!

  22. I always considered success to mean one thing, but after reading your piece I feel completely different. You're right, everyone's individual definition of success is unique as it all depends on their personal goals and values. Your piece was very well written, great job!

  25. Great definition. Society tends to put down others went someone isn't "successful" but like you said, success isn't about what we have but about where we are at mentally.

  28. I really related to your perspective on what success means, because having expensive items doesn't mean you're more successful than someone else, it should be based on our happiness and personal goals. I loved your piece it was easy to follow and I really related to your topic!

  30. This was a really different take on success which had me thinking. One point that i really agree with is that everyone has their own definition of success. Good take!

  31. I liked this piece because despite it's length, I think just about everyone can relate or agree in some aspect. For me I full heartedly agree because not everyone strives to be the same thing or achieve the same goals and that's okay because it's all about what makes a person content and sometimes that's just being happy in that specific moment in your life instead of relying on materialistic things or wealth in that sense for happiness. -toby

  33. Although it was short, I understand that success is a topic that no one at our age has enough experience to write a lot about, so I appreciate that your definition of success relates to your own personal values. Overall I feel like if you ever decide to continue writing about this in the future it would be after you'd achieved your own success.

  34. I love the idea or definition of "success" coming from within because I also look at success in that way. Many focus on material and less often focus on how they feel inside and what mindset they choose to carry. Great job!
